Things I Did This Weekend: Um Segredo III
This post should really be called “Things I Did This Week” because the event didn’t happen this weekend. It was on a Thursday — but Thursday is pretty damn close to Friday so, yeah.
Last Thursday, I went to take pictures for the third set of Um Segredo dinners (click here to see the previous dinners). The theme for this week? TRUFFLES. Every dish had truffles in it. Oh, except for the dessert course.

I love truffles, especially a nice fragrant truffe blanche d’alba. Truffles have a very distinctive smell, and some people really dislike it. But obviously, everyone who attended this dinner (and trekked all the way to Dave’s place on Roosevelt Island) must really enjoy truffles. Sadly, I rarely get a chance to meet the guests at these dinners but I did know two people that were there that day; I was able to say hello to Alice (who sells her beautiful prints on Etsy) but I didn’t get a chance to say hi to the lovely Nora Leah who also attended the Thursday dinner. Now onto the food porn!

(Scallop and uni amuse)

(Chestnut velouté with sweetbread and onion pureé)

(Creamy polenta with red wine poached duck egg and parmesan foam)

(Seared striped bass with romaine and celery root pureé)

(Iowa Farm Pork and pork belly with sauteéd vegetables and rossini sauce)

(Spiced apple yogurt gelato with a cheddar crisp)
