Chewy Brownies

I went to the grocery store the other day to stock up on baking chocolate. I grabbed a box because they honestly all look the same: rectangular. I didn’t read one of them very carefully and I noticed that they were pre-melted. This product is completely new to me: can it be substituted for cocoa powder? what do you do with it? I’m still trying to figure that out but I found a really delicious brownie recipe on the Nestle website. Nestle: I will happily endorse your product in exchange for free baking supplies. My next goal is to find a way to use this type of chocolate (I still have about 4 packets left) that does not involve the Nestle website or brownies.

Read the recipe after the jump!

The recipe, just slightly altered from the original:

  • 1 2/3 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 4 oz. Pre-Melted Unsweetened Chocolate
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Preheat the oven to 350° F. Grease 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Microwave sugar, butter and water in large, microwave-safe bowl on high for 2 minutes. Take it out of the microwaves and stir again. Microwave the mixture again for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the Pre-Melted Chocolate. Add in eggs, one at a time, until blended. Then, stir in vanilla extract. Add flour, baking soda and salt. Stir the mixture. Pour into prepared baking pan. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes and then let it cool.
