Things I Did This Weekend: Mid-Autumn Festival

I can’t believe the leaves have already changed here even though the weather can’t seem to make up its mind: one minute I’m dressed for fall, and the next minute I’m dressed for summer. It’s kind of weird to walk on a sidewalk full of dead leaves…in shorts.

I was hoping my mom would make hot pot for the Mid-Autumn Festival (or 中秋節) this weekend but settled for Taiwanese lunpiah (or 潤餅) because my mom said it was “not hot pot weather”. Lunpiah is like a overstuffed spring roll that consists of powdered sugar, peanut powder, eggs, vegetables, and shredded meats or seafood. I still prefer hot pot though (because I love it!). Oh well. See my weekend in pictures after the jump!

As for the moon cake, we had two kinds:

Taiwanese style with a super flaky exterior, filled with mung bean paste.

And the traditional Chinese style, filled with lotus seed paste and walnuts. [To be honest, I just don’t like moon cakes. It’s too sweet!]
